Hilton Expands Indonesia Pipeline with First Hotel in Batam

Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre will mark the global hotel group’s debut in Batam as Hilton continues to expand across Indonesia.

Hilton is expanding its development pipeline in Indonesia with the signing of Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre, marking the global hospitality company’s first hotel in Batam.

Scheduled to open in 2028, the 199-room hotel will be developed by PT Sabang Raya Investama and will bring the Hilton Garden Inn brand to one of Indonesia’s key business and leisure destinations.

The signing comes as Hilton continues to strengthen its presence across Indonesia. The company currently operates 18 hotels in the country with another 16 properties in its development pipeline.

A Strategic Entry into Batam

Located in central Batam, Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre will have access to major commercial and administrative areas including Lubuk Baja and Batam Centre.

The location also connects the hotel with ferry terminals serving Singapore and Malaysia, industrial areas and Hang Nadim International Airport.

For Hilton, Batam offers a relatively diverse demand base. Beyond domestic travel, the island attracts short-haul visitors from Singapore and Malaysia while its industrial economy continues to generate corporate and government travel.

MICE, weekend leisure, golf, wellness and medical-related travel are also expected to contribute to demand.

Maria Ariizumi, Vice President, Development, South East Asia & Australasia at Hilton, highlighted Batam’s position as a growing business and leisure destination, supported by its proximity to Singapore and Malaysia, strong connectivity and expanding visitor economy.

Why It Matters

Hilton’s entry into Batam shows growing international operator interest beyond Indonesia’s established hotel markets. Batam’s proximity to Singapore and Malaysia, combined with corporate, MICE and leisure demand, gives the destination a distinctive position for hotel development.
